Levels of Fakes: "Kinda High Quality" and "Super Quality" fakes

#3.  "Kinda High Quality" fakes: From here on, I'm not going to discuss "what they should improve".

This one isn't all THAT bad, and even hardware is a little better.  But these usually fall apart in a few months.  They want you to buy, not to love it for many many years!!  I'd need a close look to know it's a fake.  Certainly not from 10 feet away.  Many of these have a date code that makes perfect sense!

Did you think the Monogram Cité just came out (I'm writing this page in September of 2002)?  Well, fakes are out too!  $60-$100!

How about Special/Limited Editions, like Sharon Stone's Vanity?

#4 Super Quality Fakes: I do not know how many models are out there at this quality.  These are about half the retail prices.  Especially when new, these are very difficult to authenticate.  Outside is "near perfect", and the pitch of stitching, the quality of the monogram canvas & leather, the inside materials, etc., need to be examined.  Date codes of course make sense, and dust bags look quite good too.

This Cabas Piano looks very very good.

Date code (correct) stamped inside.

I would have to ask for additional DETAILED pictures if only these 3 pictures were provided.

Why are latest fakes so well-made?  That's because those are made by skilled craftsmen from Europe.  They've decided to move to Asia where most of high-quality counterfeits of anything are manufactured.  Some remain in Europe to keep producing, and their products are imported to the U.S. or Japan via another country.  They aren't cheap obvious fakes anymore.  Fakes used to be quite cheap ($50 for a $400 authentic wallet), but recent fakes cost half of authentic ones, and you can see why.

Now do you see why it's important to buy Louis Vuitton from a reputable (LV experienced) seller?  If you want a new one (or near new), it may be safer for you to buy one from a Louis Vuitton retail shop who provides warranties.  I personally think I'm better off buying a new one rather than becoming a nervous-wreck by saving $75 on a $600 purse (maybe it's just me again).  No Vuitton shop close by?  Call a store nearest you and speak to the store manager to order & ship one to you.  I don't know if every store does this, but at least the two LV stores near my house do it.  Louis Vuitton is "supposed to be" consistent.   Also check eLuxury.com who is an authorized Louis Vuitton online shop.  Their selection is quite limited (so are stores, actually), but at least you'll see why it makes no sense to pay $200 for a Pochette Accessories on eBay (ooops, plus $15 S/H/I).
